En Laboratories is operated as a Trade name by Lynda Ewen and is the only UK Lab offering DCM (dielectric constant measurement ) to the Oil Industry. DCM Surface Area analysis provides timely, cost effective and accurate measures of the hydrateable clay content in shale formations and assists with identifying formation boundaries and with wellbore stability studies. Surface Area values are computed from dielectric constant measurements (DCM) carried out under licence to Exxon Production Research Company and according to the methods published by Exxon in IADC/SPE Paper 23887. Generally, samples are taken every 10 or 20 metres through the interval of interest.  If narrow bands of varying mineralogy are anticipated the sample frequency should be chosen such that these bands may be identified.  10 metres is a typical interval for samples for DCM analysis. A weight of 10 to 20 grams of dry cuttings is sufficient for analysis (For wet cuttings, allow 30 - 40 grams.)  Turnaround time will depend on the number and condition of samples to be tested.  Normally 50 to 100 samples would take 5 to 6 days. Test results are e-mailed in Excel format as soon as they are available, followed by a written report containing all data and standard quality control data. Rates per sample are negotiated on the basis of the number to be tested.  Invoice terms 30 days.
