Colin has been married for 26 years to Suzanne, has five children and six grandchildren, he started his working life in Hospitality becoming a Hotel General Manager.
Colin entered the funeral industry purely by chance, one he never regrets.
The hotel where he worked was sold, finding himself out of work with bills mounting up. A friend of Colin’s arranged an interview for him at a local independent funeral directors. Colin reluctantly went along and got the job, joining as a Chauffeur/Bearer and Private Ambulance Operative, where he stayed for 5 years, but left going back into hospitality where he was qualified, but soon found himself missing the funeral industry. So he joined another Independent funeral director as a Chauffeur/Bearer and Private Ambulance Operative, He stayed for 3 years but moved on to progress his new career and joined a large funeral company as a funeral arranger in Orpington and Croydon. During this time he took and passed with distinction the London Association of Funeral Directors Arranging and Administration course. After 2 years Colin was promoted to a trainee funeral director in Limpsfield where he also started studies for the Diploma in Funeral Directing Dip FD which took a total of 18 months training by the British Institute Of Funeral Directors and he passed the written and Oral exams set by the National Association of Funeral Directors.
Colin as duty manager was responsible for out of hours HM Coroner calls, attending incidents which gained him experience working in very tragic circumstances.
The following year with qualifications, experience and the desire to provide a personal caring service, Colin started out on his own with support from his family. He opened a funeral home in Cotmandene Crescent at the end of March 2011of which he is very proud after personally working with a team on the refurbishment from January 2011.
Colin wanted to open a funeral home that offered a good affordable personal service. His belief is that bereaved families should meet and get to know the funeral director before the day of the funeral, Colin is usually the person that arranges the funeral, he likes to build a relationship with the family, so that by the time the funeral day arrives the family know him well enough which offers continuity of service, trust and a familiar friendly face taking care of proceedings on the day.
Colin takes the telephone calls out of hours so that families can speak to him personally; offering home arrangements, arrangements at the funeral home and visiting the Chapel out of business hours at no extra charge.
Colin states that he is always honest and up front with people, he believes that we should never lie or flower things over. "The worst has happened and whatever we say is not going to make it any worse".
